Dewey Beach to consider noise ordinance

12/09/2005DEWEY BEACH, Del. (AP)- The town commission in Dewey Beach has scheduled a public hearing for 9 a.m. Saturday to discuss the town's proposed noise ordinance.

The town already limits noise that comes from homes after dark. The proposed ordinance would extend the regulations to businesses. Police officers using noise measuring devices would issue penalties if the noise coming from a business reaches at least 60 decibels at a distance of 50 feet after 10 p.m. or before 7 a.m.- or more than 70 decibels at other hours. Fines would start at $500.
Mayor Courtney Riordan says people should be able to sit in their yards at night and not hear a lot of noise. But some bar and restaurant owners fear the ordinance could be bad for busines
