Beaumont police will begin a summer crackdown on people who have the volume

of their car stereo up too loud, the department said today.

Beginning Friday, extra officers will be out in marked and unmarked vehicles

targeting vehicles that violate the city's loud noise ordinance.

According to the ordinance, tickets can be issued if noise can be heard at a

distance of 50 feet or more from a building or vehicle. Words and phrases

need not be distinguishable and bass reverberations are sufficient, police

said.

The department said offenders will be immediately ticketed, with fines of up

to $150.
