Dear Editor,
Boom! Boom! Boom! Thump! Thump! Thump!
Some call it music, some call it loud music, and some call it a cultural experience. I say call it for what it is: gratuitous aggression. Whether the source is from one's driveway, bedroom or moving car it's nothing more than a statement saying, "I can disturb your peace, I can annoy you, I can announce to the world that I do as I please”. Gratuitous Aggression.
I'm speaking of the insanely loud music that comes from certain individual's cars, whether parked or moving or even from the homes of individuals or certain local bars. It's all the same thing: “I can disturb you if I want and what are you going to do about it?”.
Fortunately, this is a very small percentage of individuals who reside in the
Stop this insane aggressive behavior in our neighborhoods. Among the early signs of neighborhood decay are graffiti and loud car stereo boom boxes. The police can help put a stop to this aggressive behavior, but it's up to us, the people, to help take back our neighborhoods from these bozos of boom.
What can you do? Adopt a policy of zero tolerance. Either politely ask the individuals to turn down their music, or in the case of a moving vehicle, report it to the Sunnyvale Public Safety. If they receive enough calls from the same locale then they will do something about it. It is not legal behavior to disturb the neighborhood and they will be cited.
Are you fed up with the territorial bellowing of hyenas on the Serengeti? Well then, stop the racket! Call the police and report the make of car, driver description and the license plate number. This may also have a secondary effect of reducing the other unnecessary form of aggressive behavior: burning rubber.
It's our neighborhood, not theirs to do with as they please. We pay plenty in taxes, work hard to make our homes presentable and comfortable, and we appreciate quiet! Why let a few take away our peace and serenity because they think they're too tough to be challenged?
Just do it!
