December 3, 2005This week's question: Pet Peeves You know what really bugs me? No, what really bugs you? Tell your best story about your biggest pet peeve. It's Saturday night, 1 a.m. and I just got home. We had fun, but I wanted to go home an hour ago. I let the dog out and we climb into bed. Just as I close my eyes and begin to drift off to sleep I hear a familiar sound. Boom boom boom. Boom boom boom. Boom boom boom. My eyes open. Not again! Our houses are so close together, it's impossible to tell where the noise is coming from. I open the back door and look out. Everyone's lights are out. I open the front door and look out. Everyone's lights are out. Should I try to find out where the music is coming from and ask them to turn it down? I've got my pajamas on, I have no idea where it's coming from, and going to a strangers door in the middle of the night probably isn't the best idea. Should I call the police? They have better things to do. Maybe they'll turn it down soon. Boom boom boom. Boom boom boom. Boom boom boom. You've got to be kidding. The clock reads 2 a.m. now and they just turned the music up even louder. Am I the only one sitting up stewing over this right now? I can understand having friends over and listening to music, but to turn it up so loud that people who live a block away can hear it inside their houses? Whatever happened to common courtesy and respect for your neighbors? They have to know people can hear them. They have to know that they're bothering other people. They have to know that they are annoying the entire neighborhood! Boom boom boom. Boom boom boom. Boom boom boom. In my mind I plot revenge. I find out where the music is coming from and I go there at 6 a.m. I find the most annoying CD ever made (probably by the same band currently playing) and I park my car in front of their house and crank my stereo up as far as it will go. ... Unfortunately the loud music and late nights has rendered them completely deaf and exhausted and they don't even hear me. The clock reads 3 a.m. now and I'm beside myself with frustration when all of a sudden ... Silence. Finally! Next time I guess I'll just call the police.
