Loud music complaints leads to county marijuana arrest

A loud music complaint call to the Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office ended with one man being arrested on complaints of Cultivating Marijuana. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29.OCSO Chief Deputy Gary McCollum was called to the Davenport Road area of North Okmulgee County by a citizen complaining that his neighbor was playing music too loudly and the lyrics were too obscene for his young children to be hearing.

When McCollum approached the house to make contact with the home-owner, he noticed 5 planters sitting outside on the ground below the porch."I waited until he came home and asked him about the loud music," said McCollum. "I then asked him about the plants and he told me they were tomato plants. I told him they sure looked like the Marijuana leaves that were on the front cover of the High Times magazine that was on his front porch."McCollum said that the then suspect admitted that the plants were his and he had planted them.McCollum arrested Steven Loyd Johnston, 22, 8100 block of Davenport Road, Mounds, on one count of felony complaint of the Cultivation of Marijuana.

Johnston appeared before Special District Judge Duane Woodliff on Thursday afternoon for his initial bond appearance. Bond was set at $10,000 and Johnston was ordered to reappear on July 6 to learn if the state will file felony charges against him.
