Off-duty Calcasieu deputy beaten

Suspect faces battery counts, released on own recognizance

A 27-year-old Calcasieu Parish sheriff’s deputy was beaten early Friday in an offduty altercation, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The victim’s identity was withheld for his safety, deputies said.

He is in a local hospital and is expected to have surgery on an eye. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The suspect, Terry Jones Jr., 21, of 1810 10 th St., was charged with second-degree battery, deputies said.

Jones was released on his own recognizance by Judge Wilford Carter, deputies said.

The incident occurred at 2 a.m. at the Taco Bell on Prien Lake Road and Kirkman Street. The off-duty deputy was in the drive-through line and another car was reportedly playing music loudly.

When the deputy approached the car to ask that the music be turned down, the altercation ensued, deputies said.

The suspect’s car left the scene but a witness wrote down the license number and turned it in to investigators.

The information led to the arrest of Jones.
