Calcasieu deputy beaten
Suspect faces battery counts, released on own
recognizance
A
27-year-old Calcasieu Parish sheriff’s deputy was beaten early Friday in an offduty altercation, according to the Calcasieu Parish
Sheriff’s Office.
The
victim’s identity was withheld for his safety, deputies said.
He
is in a local hospital and is expected to have surgery on an eye. His injuries
are not thought to be life-threatening.
The
suspect, Terry Jones
Jr
.,
21, of 1810 10 th St., was charged with second-degree
battery, deputies said.
Jones
was
released on his own recognizance by Judge Wilford
Carter, deputies said.
The
incident occurred at 2 a.m. at the Taco Bell on Prien
Lake Road and Kirkman Street. The off-duty deputy was
in the drive-through line and another car was reportedly playing music loudly.
When
the deputy approached the car to ask that the music be turned down, the
altercation ensued, deputies said.
The
suspect’s car left the scene but a witness wrote down the license number and
turned it in to investigators.
The
information led to the arrest of Jones
